Kara Jaynes is a fantasy and children’s book author. She love the rain, long walks, and reading a good book. She’s been writing since she was very young and has more stories in her head than she could possibly write… and she’s kindly agreed to have a quick chat with us today.
As a writer, what does your typical day look like?
Kara: I’m a mom. So, I change diapers and stuff when the kids are awake. In the early hours of dawn and the dusky hours of twilight, I write, plot, edit, read, and so on.
With young kids, I can imagine you need to do quite a bit of juggling!
How do you come up with new ideas? What inspires you?
Kara: Anything fantasy or dragon related, when it comes to books and art. I listen to all kinds of music, but the kind of music that gets the ideas rolling and the ink flowing is usually epic music on Youtube. Brunuhville and Antti Martikainen are two of my favorite music artists.
I’ll have to look them up on YouTube.
Is that were you come up with the characters for your books?
Kara: I get ideas everywhere. When I read, listen to music, when I workout (ha! not as often as I should), and even when I’m cleaning the house. I’m a bit of a daydreamer, so ideas are constantly popping up in my head.
My characters are all entirely fictional, though I have sometimes drawn inspiration from real people.
Is writing something that you’ve always wanted to do?
Kara: Yes! I was twelve or thirteen when I realized writing fantasy was my passion. I’ve been writing and plotting ever since. I released my first full-length novel in 2016.
What can you tell our readers about Fabled – your book that’s featured in our free collection of science fiction and fantasy books.
Kara: Fabled is a blend of fairy tales, epic fantasy and eternal love. Isabelle is a young woman who leaves home to seek her fortune, when her father loses his fortune at sea. She’s inexperienced, insecure and at times selfish, but has a good heart.
It’s all about the theme that Love Conquers All. Some say it’s a cliche but it really is true.
Fabled is the first book in a trilogy. It’s a story about Isabelle and her struggle to find love and success, all while trying to keep her best friend alive and the world from being destroyed.
Are you working on anything else at the minute?
Kara: I always have a project in the works, ha. Right now I’m in the middle of writing a prequel trilogy for the Fabled Hunters trilogy. Book one is current;y set to be released mid-late summer.
Aside from Fabled, which is available here, where else can our readers find you and your work?
Thank you Kara!
